Fit guide

Nearly every return in dog gear comes down to fit. Here is how to get it right first time. If you are unsure, email support@ruffdale.com with the breed and weight, or your car's make, model and year, and we will tell you which size to order.

Measuring your dog

  • Neck: around the base of the neck where a collar sits, two fingers of slack.
  • Chest (girth): the widest point, just behind the front legs. This is the number that decides harness and coat size.
  • Back length: base of neck to base of tail. This decides coat length.
  • Weight: useful as a cross-check, never as the only measure.

Where a dog sits between two sizes, go up. Barrel-chested breeds such as staffies, bulldogs and boxers should size up on chest measurement regardless of weight.

Choosing a car product

  • Hammock seat cover: covers the back seat and the footwell. Best for dogs that slide about or for keeping mud off three surfaces at once.
  • Bench seat cover: covers the seat only. Best if you still need footwell space for passengers.
  • Hard bottom extender: bridges the footwell to make one flat platform. Best for older dogs, big dogs, and anyone whose dog will not settle on a slope.
  • Boot liner: for estates and SUVs where the dog travels in the boot. Measure boot floor width and depth before ordering.
  • Boot barrier: keeps the dog out of the back seat. Measure the width of your boot opening at its widest.

Before you order a boot liner

Open the boot and measure the floor at its widest and deepest point, and the height of the sides you want covered. Universal liners fit a wide range but not every car. If your measurements are near the limits given on the product page, email us first.

If we get it wrong

If something does not fit, you have 30 days to send it back. Faulty or wrong item, we pay the postage both ways. Changed your mind, you cover the return. Details are in our returns policy.

A note on this product's sizes. The maker labels them by letter and does not publish a chart of measurements against those letters. Measure your dog as above, send us the chest and weight, and we will confirm the size before we dispatch. Between two sizes, go up.

Protect tender paws and give older dogs stability

When daily walks involve hot pavement, grit, or winter road salt, your dog's paws need reliable cover. Indoors, smooth wooden floors can leave older dogs slipping and unsure of their footing. This protective leg sleeve guards vulnerable paws from harsh ground conditions while offering extra stability for daily movement.

Secured around the body with an adjustable buckle strap, the sleeve stays comfortably in place during movement. An adjustable ankle strap allows a close hold, while the non-slip rubber sole gives your dog grip on slippery surfaces inside and protects paws on rough terrain outside.

  • Non-slip rubber sole gives traction on smooth wooden floors.
  • Protects paws from grit, road salt and hot pavement.
  • Adjustable body strap with buckle holds the sleeve in place.
  • Adjustable ankle straps keep the lower sleeve securely fitted.

Which dogs it suits. Ideal for older dogs who slip on wooden floors and spaniels, collies or similar dogs walking on rough, salty, or hot surfaces. It is not suitable for dogs requiring full rigid limb immobilisation or post-surgical joint splinting.
